As part of the Advanced Technology and Innovation team, I had first-hand experience on how Concept and Technology Acquisition was conducted. I lead the complete overhaul of the database system used to store and track the submissions through different stages.
The team reviews 3000 highly confidential submissions a year through several interview processes and sign the same amount of NDAs on the spot which has to be shared with internal legal teams and the inventor as well. With this new website (TABLET FIRST, responsive web with offline+sync capabilities) we use iPad tablets to conduct these interviews to take pictures and have clients sign the documents with a stylus.

Execution

Throughout the design process, I identified several new functionalities that shortened the vetting process by 2-4 weeks which made a huge difference to the clients and Hasbro especially in cases of dropped submissions.

New functionalities included: opening up the database for the inventors, creating a client-side dashboard to view the state of all previous and current submissions, with the capability to upload images, videos and documents which were previously submitted through email/file transfer.

We also opened up the database towards management and added functionalities to present and then assign team ownerships for passed submissions.

I conducted +25 user interviews over the 4-month development cycle including internal and external new future users.

Results

The visual progress tracking was the most used and appreciated feature for administration and clients alike. The Hasbro Inventor community is using this platform to this day.

Later on we added a new analytics section, an inventor briefing document reader section, and a custom meeting scheduler functionality.
